Formosa Plastics has developed Tairyfil, a PAN (polyacrylonitrile) based carbon fiber for high performance applications. Tairyfil is stronger than steel, lighter than aluminum, as stiff as titanium, corrosion-resistant and will not rust. Our fibers have good compatibility with both thermoset and thermoplastic resins used in CFRP (carbon fiber-reinforced polymers) including excellent compatibility and processability with epoxy resins. It is also available in various grades for different applications including high strength, standard to high modulus (33 Msi-55Msi) and small to large tow fiber (1.5K-48K). These properties and variety of grades allow Formosa to adapt to the needs of different processes and can be easily and quickly used to make a wide range of composite products.

12K、24K In Q1 of 2014, Formosa Plastics launched the high modulus TC-55 carbon fiber with tensile strength of 640 Ksi (4,400 MPa) and tensile modulus of 55 Msi (380 GPa).  Currently, Formosa Plastics is one of only four manufacturers in the world that is able to produce carbon fiber with these properties. Sporting goods (bicycles, rackets, skis, snowboards, hockey sticks, fishing rods), pressure vessels, oil & gas (rods and tubes), aerospace applications.

12K、24K In response to industry demand for higher strength carbon fiber, the TC-36S was developed with tensile strength of 710 Ksi (4,900 MPa) and tensile modulus of 36 Msi (250 GPa), which is 3%-6% higher than comparable carbon fiber from other manufacturers.  It is ideal for applications that require high strength and high stiffness.  The TC-36S has been optimized for the filament winding process and for prepregs with FAW as low as 50 gsm. Sporting goods (bicycles, rackets, skis, snowboards, hockey sticks, fishing rods), structural reinforcement, pressure vessel, oil & gas (rods and tubes), electronics, automotive parts.

48K A large tow (48K) version of TC-35 is available.  The TC-35 48K is used in prepregs up to 600 gsm (FAW) where resin compatibility is important. Industrial application like wind turbine blades, electrical components, automotive parts.
